In Prague, Catholic priests reject Communist orders to desert Archbishop Beran, declaring loyalty to church authorities. They accuse the government of violating religious freedom, call the action schismatic, and say signatures were obtained by fraud. Authorities push for state control of church posts and property.

Cleveland report says a city bus driver Stephen J. Lillis a 30 year old Marine Corps veteran shot and killed one of three armed robbers Leroy Nelson 23 as they fled after robbing him and a passenger at the Bessemer Ave terminus. The gunman clutched a wallet taken from a passenger. The robbers escaped with $85 and $8 from the bus.
Everett Colwell now owns the old David Lowry farm near Danville plus about 450 acres across Salem and Gallia Counties, with his sons helping on the cultivated land. Harley Copeland occupies the Stewart home near Athens with a 13 room house and a pond stocked with fish. The state fire marshal closed the Mounds Club in Lake County for fire code violations and the order may be appealed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Attorney Richard J. Moriarty says the cited violations are petty and insists the closure was pretextual.
About 8000 members of the 37th Infantry Division Ohio National Guard will participate in the annual summer field training at Camp Atterbury Indiana from August 14 to 28. All units except two totaling 132 will join the exercise. The training includes living under combat conditions for one day.
The legislature appropriated nearly $2,000,000 for Lima State Hospital to build a 300 bed unit for psychopathic offenders. A $1,450,000 allocation funds the project with an overall $1,925,500 total. Funds become available 90 days after Gov Lausche signs and are subject to State Board of Control release.

President Truman’s steel fact finding board arrives in Washington to set start dates for hearings on a fourth postwar wage increase and broader pension and insurance plans. The board led by Carroll R. Daugherty will study the dispute and report by August 30, with Arthur Goldberg of the CIO United Steelworkers backing rapid data review. Separately in Cleveland, steel output rebounded from a holiday dip as the national ingot rate rose to 77 percent of capacity, offset by market jitters over a potential strike.

Cause given as the door flying open after she brushed it. Survivors include her parents six sisters two brothers and funeral set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the Church of Christ Henderson.
Akron police search a wooded area for Eddie Starcher 22, the final fugitive from a June 3 breakout at Moundsville State Penitentiary. Detectives say the other 13 escapees are in custody after Patrolman Frank Fallon spotted the man off duty and he fled into the brush.
Two bombs exploded in Barcelona on Sunday night in the city main square. One man was killed and nine others injured in the blasts, authorities said.
A two gunmen were chased across Lancaster Athens Franklin Hocking and Perry counties after seizing a Shawnee farmer's truck at gunpoint during a highway crash. They fled to Glouster's J and M Bar where they were arrested with two .45 caliber automatics. Women injured in the crash were treated at Hocking Hospital Logan. The suspects claimed AWOL from Camp Lejeune.
About 12 000 Timken Roller Bearing Co workers in Canton Columbus Zanesville Wooster and Mount Vernon voted to approve a new one year contract ending a potential strike. The deal maintains the 1948 agreement with raises for nearly 2000 employees and retains a right to reopen negotiations after 90 days for wages pensions and an insurance plan.
