Officials Apprehensive Of Ohio Education Bill At Senate Hearing
Athens County Schools Supt Robert Weinfurtner and Nelsonville York Supt Jack Hillyer voiced concern after a Senate hearing on House Bill 531. They said state aid shifts would raise local taxes, with local districts funding about 70 percent of school costs. The bill would raise cigarette taxes, utility taxes, and corporation taxes to fund education, but cuts teacher subsidies and limits special education expansion.
