Reported from Athens Ohio where a heat wave dominates the Athens District. The Columbus Weather Bureau notes temperatures near 104 F with no cooling rain in sight. Residents faced sleepless nights as the Hocking River stood around 3.3 to 3.4 feet today.
Dynamite attached to Raymond E. Sinclair’s car exploded as he started work in Cadiz injuring the 38 year old foreman of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Mine Unionvale. The blast damaged nearby buildings and triggered a townwide alarm amid ongoing mining unrest and prior threats. Sinclair was taken to Martins Ferry hospital.
Washington July 16 Hoover will enter the campaign without formal endorsement from dry organizations that led in 1928 The National Prohibition Board of Strategy after hours of debate decided against an open endorsement though Hoover is the favored candidate The board will highlight records of two candidates and urge support for dry league candidates for Congress state legislatures and local officials
Former President Calvin Coolidge argues in Collier's Weekly that a general sales tax on tobacco and faseline produce can fund revenue without burdening consumers. He warns that broadening the tax would align with self government. In Columbus, Miss Charlotte White, daughter of Governor George White, selects August 3 for her marriage to Dr. Frank E. Hamilton.

Washington July 15 A P The Bonus Army battalion of Death consisting of 500 destitute World War I veterans remains on Capitol Hill. They marched 45 hours and vow to stay until Congress acts. Marines briefly arrived then withdrew as police kept order led by Roy W Robertson who fainted twice yesterday.
In Detroit sentences prosecutors alleged that a clerk in Governor George White’s Ohio office received 830 000 to sway an opinion on extradition for gangster Jimmy Lecavoli from Toledo to Detroit. Duncan C McCrea, assistant prosecutor, stated the charge in court today.
In Gallia County two deaths were reported Thursday. Captain Sam Gillespie of Kenova West Virginia died at the Marine Hospital after a six week illness, survived by his wife and two sons. Also the cerebral hemorrhage death of 76 year old Nann Brown Cochran occurred at a Gallipolis home. she leaves nine children and was to be buried at Culver Cemetery after services at the Salome Church Saturday afternoon.
Friends say Natalie Talmadge left their Beverly Hills home and is considering a final separation from Buster Keaton, Hollywood comedian, as of July 1.
The heaviest electrical wind and rain storm in years struck Route 31 from Burlingham to Rocksprings Fairgrounds. Water reached three feet in places and Kingsbury Creek rose to its highest level since construction. Crops, including near Edson Hart’s cornfield, were washed out. roads became swift rivers and driving was nearly impossible through Langsville and Wilkesville.
The county budget process for 1933 is underway with estimates based on 1930 1931 and first half 1932 expenditures. Public review runs during a ten day advertising period before filing with Auditor J Clyde Edmundson and Budget Commission approval.

President Hoover reduced his pay by 20 percent to 60 000 and cut vice president and cabinet salaries by 15 percent to 12750 each, effective immediately. The moves lower executive compensation in the wake of the economic climate.

House and Senate also clashed over a national bank currency expansion amid a looming failure to reach agreement.
President Hoover reassures Americans that no shift is planned on war debt matter amid Franco British accord. A Borah inquiry prompts Hoover to stress the United States will not join a united front by debtors. Paris reports say Herriot confirms Franco British accord does not alter Britain’s debt talks with the United States.
An improvised Black Betsy carried four people from a coal train to the county jail in New Lexington. The group included Cathleen Miller and Mervin Miller and two others who claimed to be from Dunbar West Virginia and Channery. Sheriff Meigs County and Sheriff Clark pursued a wanted man Virgil Thomas, but he was not among the captured quartet.
In Columbus on July 1, Charlie H. Lewis, former lieutenant governor, was chosen Republican state campaign manager by the Republican State Central Committee after a stormy hour and a half session. Earlier the majority supported E. D. Schorr of Cincinnati.
Nelson Thornton and Heber Tope face a jury in Common Pleas Court on arson charges for allegedly planning to burn a Trimble house on June 12. Prosecutor John W. Bolin presented evidence including cans of caustic oil and a candle set in a box, with testimony from about twenty witnesses. Jury members listed include Gertrude Wolfe and W. H. Logan among others.
Joseph Heilley, a 60 year old Camp Creek farmer, was cleared of murder after claiming self defense in the killing of Charles Pratt, 45, following an election day quarrel that left John Judge Joseph W. Bagby dead. Judge Bagby presided as judge and jury in Georgetown.
In Columbus July 1, Secretary Hurley attacked Roosevelt’s New Deal as old Bryan tactics while urging a Republican platform focused on economy and anti debt. Senator Bass and candidates Bettman and Ingalls spoke on prohibition, with Bettman pushing repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and Ingalls pledging to enforce Ohio law while seeking its repeal alongside national GOP aims.
The Big Five mine at Bannock, run by Pursgrove interests, will reopen next Monday at the urging of 225 former employees who will return. It is the only mine in that county section to resume. Wage-scale issues delayed a restart last week but are settled to operators, miners, and law enforcement satisfaction. Morristown businessmen and Hanna Coal Company miners urged reopening of No 6 at Laferty after talks with Hanna officials.
The death of Ruth McCartney Gresham 24 of Lakewood after sinking in eight feet of water at Clifton Park beach is suspected to be due to heart disease. Relatives report two others also drowned in Lake Cleveland today in the incident.
