The Jacob’s madstone in a Blanken ship child case

A reporter observed the Jacob’s madstone after removal from a wound on a Blanken ship child as Dr Jacobs prepared a second application. The irregular stone, about 3 inches by 3 inches by 1 inch, has one smooth side applied to the wound. It soaked in salt water, dried, and reapplied, with a glistening discharge resembling quicksilver noted at the edges. The stone clung to the wound, suggesting remaining poison in the blood, and in the boy’s case the stone adhered for 72 hours before continuing about town in good wealth. The Georgia watermelon crop is circulating again and the agricultural market has risen.
