Mason School Board Hires Staff in Long Session
Mason County Board of Education hired 12 month teachers and janitors plus office personnel and bus drivers in a lengthy meeting ending at 11 40 p m. They approved contracts for band directors home ec and vo ag teachers and coaches at Point Pleasant Hannan Wahama and Wahama High Schools and Wahama High. The board also eyed purchasing the Weaver property at Hartford for 1700 and bid notices for coal gas and insurance.

Gallia County Commission Takes No Action on Damage Claim
Gallia County Commissioners reviewed an estimated 1321.45 in damages allegedly caused by relocation of Drake Fork Road near John W. Unroe in Guyan Township but took no action. They also authorized welfare and road projects, including a 48 by 44 inch culvert for Holcomb Road and an incinerator for the courthouse boiler room, with costs and contractors named.

motorists fined in dwI case and airman at exercise sigtas
Glen Henry 50 of Lesage West Virginia was fined 50 dollars and costs in Municipal Court for driving while intoxicated and received five days in jail plus a six month license suspension. Judge Sowers also fined John Fulks 30 Crown City Route 1 for reckless operation and Ella Condee 63 Gallipolis for failure to yield. Additional fines were imposed for intoxication on Mark Tanner George Bailey and Ray Jenkins. Armstong Jr., son of Mrs. Margaret Armstrong of Gallipolis, took part in Exercise Sigtas in the Philippines with SEATO forces.

Mason 4-H Youths Are Big Winners
Mason County 4 H youths won blue ribbons at the regional demonstration and talk meet in Roane County. Mickey Yester demonstrated forestry conservation and Bill Blain spoke on highway safety and will represent the region at State 4-H camp in Jackson's Mill August 11 12. Eleven counties participated in the regional across southwestern West Virginia. Arline Roush earned a blue ribbon but lost in the public speaking contest.
