Roosevelt orders probe into Arkansas strike flogging incident
President Roosevelt ordered an inquiry into the eastern Arkansas cotton workers strike after reports that six men near Earle flogged Miss Willie Sue Blagden of Memphis and the Rev. Claude C. Williams of Little Rock. The couple said they went to bury a beaten sharecropper and claimed planters opposing the strike were the attackers.
