Pomeroy Bend Council Sees Bond Plans and Street Repairs
Council met with most members present as Keehne arrived late. The sheriff’s bill for June was 147 dollars and Mayor Shumaker reported 161.80 from fines and licenses. An ordinance authorized 6300 dollars in bonds for street improvements and Kerrs Run repairs, and 7000 dollars in refunding bonds at six percent. A sewer petition with 258 signatures prompted a special meeting to clear up sanitary concerns after a Second street cave-in. Discussion covered street repairs funding, a 2800 dollar certificate of indebtedness, and private sewer hookup on Laurel street. The street car line conditions and open pavement beside Kerrs Run drew action for the street committee and the street commissioner. Various residents and visitors were noted, and local events and notices completed the record.

Seed corn tests reduced winter losses and helped establish a strong crop outlook aided by rain and sun. Corn becomes a staple food as wartime diets shift toward corn based substitutes and corn bread.
