Official Denies Withholding Survey Results From Budget Vote

Ohio officials denied delaying unfavorable survey findings on environmental spending to influence the governors budget. John Mountain of the Department of Economic and Community Development said there was nothing sinister about the late release tied to the 1974 75 biennium. The survey of 18000 Ohio businessmen, reported by the Associated Press, criticized the EPA and followed a budget vote by the General Assembly to restore most of the EPA funding after lawmakers faced a deadline. Mountain cited mechanics and timing, noting the data had been tallied weeks earlier and that releasing it after the budget vote was coincidental.

Charges Dropped for Seven POWs in North Vietnam Case

Army and Marine enlisted men who were wartime POWs in North Vietnam have had charges of aiding the enemy and misconduct dropped for insufficient evidence. One other former POW, Sgt Abel L. Kavanaugh, killed himself last week. his charges were null and void. Remaining cases target two officers, Navy Capt Walter Wilber and Marine Col Edison Miller, for potential court-martial.
