Schranz Ban May Be Appealed
Austrian ski officials prepared to appeal the disqualification of Karl Schranz from the 1972 Winter Games after the IOC barred him for allowing his name to be used commercially. French officials criticised the ruling and discussed possible joint actions with Austria and Germany. Schranz, preparing for his fourth Olympics, reportedly earned up to 50,000 dollars yearly from ski connections and argued he was punished for a general athletes’ practice.
