OU Budget Under Study At Ohio University

First draft of the 1967 budget for Ohio University is being reviewed by President Dr. Vernon R. Alden. It is expected to exceed the current 44 million dollar total due to higher state aid per student and enrollment growth, with possible federal aid reductions offsetting gains. The largest current cost is 29.4 million for structural and general expenses. Alden hints at a conservative approach to salaries and new appointments next year to avoid cuts in equipment and supplies. Salaries for teaching staff have risen this year and general staff pay increases were announced. Mid February targets completion of the budget.

Lions Hear About Gun Education Efforts

Edward Dean of the Ohio Division of Wildlife told the Lions Club at The Ohio University Inn that high school hunter safety lessons emphasize self control and good gun habits. He seeks to extend to junior highs, noted 1300 area students trained last year, and will start Feb 1 with volunteers supplying time while students provide ammunition. Dean warned hunting will shrink as area population grows, with rifles used less due to stray bullets into towns. He also cited six deer killed by motorists last week and plans for spring fishing festivals to recruit inexperienced anglers. In business, Cecil McClone announced the Athens Lions will staff the hospitality room for the state's Cleveland Pick-Carter hotel convention May 24–26. Dr. Thomas Littler reported Lions support Eye Research Center at Western Reserve University, researching ultrasonic treatment for eye disorders.
