The Athens City School District backs halving its special three-mill levy for 1935. A 1.68 mill cut, due to a new 10-mill cap, reduces district rate by 3.18 mills. Total district needs are $134,506.25 with $103,660 for operations and $30,846.25 for bonds interest. The proposed 8.42 mills compare to 11.60 last year with inside and outside limitation splits.
Mrs Myra Brooks aged 73 died at 4 o clock this morning at the Athens County Infirmary from influenza and pneumonia after two weeks in the home. Her daughter is Mrs George Fitzer of Millfield and her grandson Harley Schoonover of Hocking County. Other daughters unnamed. Mr Brooks had lived in Nelsonville and Hocking County. Funeral arrangements not yet made.
Senator Black of Alabama introduces a major change to the Roosevelt social security program. He would amend the Wagner-Lewis Bill to pay unemployment insurance from general taxation, funded by higher income, inheritance, and excess profits taxes.
A. L. Vonsar former body guard to presidents and early assistant at President Harding’s side was killed by a prisoner during a police trap in Bloomington Illinois after a small fry robbery raid. Vonsar a former Secret Service man helped the President after his 1923 assassination.
Columbus January 29 Governor Davey said Simon David of Jackson is among many applicants for state conservation commissioner. He indicated William Reinhart the current commissioner will not succeed himself.
In Baton Rouge on January 28 Will Rogers writes about airplane sleepers on a Los Angeles to New York route. He describes landing for fuel while passengers sleep, mentions the Baton Rouge capital, and notes Huey Long's prominence with humor and local color.
In Columbus a $4 million highway appropriation bill moved in the Senate as House panels debated a $6 million Cleveland deficiency bond measure. The sales tax stamp bill would pay state agents one percent and county treasurers three quarters of one percent of stamp proceeds, up from one tenth. Senator William Herner of Huron introduced the measure.
Thirty seven officials from 18 mid western cities urged the U S Senate to investigate the natural gas industry. Meeting in Columbus at the invitation of Mayor Worley they denounced monopolistic practices and called for federal regulation and a senatorial inquiry.

William Buck Reynolds tobacco salesman died in Coshocton on Saturday of pneumonia. Funeral services scheduled at Murray's Funeral Home Greenfield at 2 p m today with burial to follow.

Roy Bevelhymer aged 35 of Malinta Ohio was sentenced to life in the Ohio Penitentiary after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the death of his mother Amanda Bevelhymer a World War veteran allegedly beaten on Christmas Eve leading to her death.
Berlin officials confirm that Ernst Lubitsch, the Hollywood director, had his German citizenship revoked yesterday as part of a broader order stripping 207 individuals of nationality deemed dangerous to the state. The action targets Jewish and other individuals labeled as dangerous.
