He claimed he and two companions killed Thelma Woods and her escort Earl Truesdale and disposed of their bodies in a quarry.
Day-ton January 29 announcing the Cincinnati and Lake Erie Railroad and Lake Erie Company, operators of an electric line between Cincinnati and Toledo, are now under receivers.

Mrs Leota Parsons 29 of Belle near Charleston and her admitted lover were to be heard today for conspiring to murder her husband Charles C Parsons 47 a chemical plant foreman Police said Parsons sought $10000 life insurance and freedom to marry Edgar Belcher of Charleston A Tennessee arrest connected to a blackjack attempt last November involved Dr L Swift and a man Rufus Clendenin who allegedly offered to reveal the plot for payment and to arrange the killing for $1000
Lockmaster J. R. Hill at Martins Ferry-Warwood Dam reports all January tonnage on the Ohio River surpassed 100000 tons. The prior January high was 90000 tons. Strong steel and coal traffic plus lack of ice drive the record.
United Mine Workers of America plans a six hour workday and federal coal regulation after their Indiana convention. John L. Lewis urged a Federal Coal Commission and collective bargaining rights while criticizing Harlan County strife. Illinois insurgents and administration factions were muted as Indiana and Ohio delegates backed Lewis.
Nelsonville January 29 miners at the Hocking Mine of the Stalter Essex Co joined a wage cut protest. Workers voted unanimously not to work under the reduced scale effective Monday February 1. Similar actions were reported at White Ash Coal Bailey Run No 90 Mine Sunday Creek Carrington Luhrig Mine 25 Manhattan Chauncey with further meetings planned.

The House Ways and Means Committee drafted a revenue bill aiming to raise 350 to 650 million from energy taxes and income measures, with potential auto and amusement taxes only as a last resort. Sir Ronald Lindsay met Secretary of State Stimson and said Britain would join the United States in making representations to Japan. Stimson went to the White House to present the memorandum before a cabinet meeting. The State Department described the British attitude as very satisfactory.
A joint labor presidents conference began at 10:30 a.m. in Chicago with chiefs and sub chiefs of 20 unions and nine railroad presidents. They are expected to vote to accept a 10 percent wage cut for one year in exchange for job stability and relief for unemployed rail workers.
Deputy Sheriff George Rasp headed to Memphis to extradite Ralph Philbeck to Athens for possible identification as one of two men who attempted the First National Bank hold up at Amesville last week. Philbeck’s whereabouts and description match the bank entry suspect.
Columbus detectives report an emerging scheme to produce 1932 license plates from 1931 plates as a result of high license costs. Three men were arrested in an investigation into a conspiracy to counterfeit plates and sell them for two dollars and 33 cents. Four sets of plates were reportedly found among the conspirators' materials.
Howard May twenty three of Portsmouth pleaded guilty at arraignment before Judge Harold Kime on a robbery charge. He was held to the grand jury under a ten thousand dollar bond after allegedly taking nine dollars from the Mills Buffet cashier and was caught three minutes later three blocks away.

Chinese forces mount stubborn resistance aided by darkness and clouds. Japanese naval bombardment targets Woosung forts as seven hours of fighting ensue.
In Portland England on January 20 the M-2 submarine search continued as heavy seas thwarted mine sweepers and destroyers. About 60 crewmen remain missing as rescue ships, divers, and lifting camels operate, while two improvised flags are found and heard taps are not detected.
New York story reports that Diane Moore an 18 month old infant has been deemed a congenital idiot by specialists at the Neurological Institute who refuse a brain operation. They say she lacks brain tissue and will have a mental age at best of seven and likely never walk or talk. The institute's decision is final and further examinations were canceled.
In New York a slow moving car sprayed bullets at racketeer Thomas Patalino as he walked through a street crowded with nearly 1000 children. Five bullets struck him and the gunmen sped away, passing two policemen during the getaway.
Two Toledo men, Arthur Carvin and George Williams, say they worked for Ben J. Licciardi, the Toledo detective, and were jailed in Bucyrus for questioning over extorting money from locals by promising charges exemption from prohibition law. They allegedly collected a marked $10 bill from Casper Hothlin to avoid Cleveland Federal trial.
Miss Marie Fleming, 27, was struck by the car of State Senator Robert A. Taft as she stepped from a street car in Cincinnati. Police ruled the death an accident and absolved Taft of blame after an investigation.
Miss Caroline Nausener graduate nurse and missionary worker refused to swear the oath to kill in time of war and was denied naturalization by Judge Samuel H. Weat in Federal Court. She was born in Poland and had previously been denied citizenship in November of last year.
Grand jury after a 16 day session charged politicians in Lawrence County with evading election laws by helping illiterate voters mark absent ballots. Fifty five indictments were returned four for election code violations. Cora Sexton Crabtree aged nineteen was indicted for illegal voting and Steven Sexton was accused of vote buying. EB P Collins and Isaac Russell faced charges for aiding Lulu Daniels to mark absent ballots. A fifth indictment involve a minor, name withheld. Clarence J Brown urged to inspect county election machinery.
Columbus Ohio January 20 Governor George White issued a requisition on the Governor of Tennessee for the return to Athens County of Ralph Philbeck under arrest in Memphis Tennessee on a charge of robbing the Amesville Bank.
Yesterday highs reached 80 in New Orleans and 78 in Miami while Jacksonville hit 76. Today's lows include 30 below in The Pas and 34 below in Battleford with a broad 36 hour outlook for colder conditions and inaccuracy in place names.
Chinese civilians flee a burning district as Japanese warplanes bombed the Young-Allen Memorial Home and surrounding homes. Authorities hoped the truce would hold though 22 hours of fighting left many dead or injured in the city.

Earlier reports said the destroyers would join the Yangtze River patrol along the river about LW miles from Shanghai.
Winnie Ruth Judd marked her 27th birthday in Phoenix while facing death in a murder trial. Her father Rev H J McKinnell said the family would not observe the day, noting he and his wife had tried to visit on a court recess but were denied by J R McFadden. The pastor said he and his wife have pushed their insanity defense efforts.
A Buchtel man was found not guilty of keeping a place where liquor was sold before Magistrate C H Porter. C J Irwin of Columbus pleaded guilty to intoxication and was fined 100 dollars plus costs. Deputy Sheriff Rasps and Charlee Bayless assisted.
