The display lists local firms like Star Flour, Walsh Electric, Bethel's Grocery, Raven's Bakery and others, illustrating how a dollar circulates among businesses and benefits the community.
A New Yorker, L. H. Jacobson, salesman for a New York clothing supplier, rented a Detroit cab to visit stores in Athens and nearby Indiana and Ohio. The Michigan-licensed car attracted attention on Court Street as he made stops.
Athens County and township shares totaling 21 027 from the state motor vehicle license tax were distributed by the county auditor. Checks were mailed to townships detailing allocations to general funds road and bridge funds and county bonds and interest.
Elyria reports a well dressed man commits suicide by stepping under an eastbound New York Central train. Identification hints point to K. Dittes of Newbury New York and a child's photo with a farewell note reading Daddy found in his coat. TIFFIN records Jerome Swope a 65 year old unemployed chinamaker killed by a Baltimore and Ohio train after walking into its path.
Doorn Netherlands January 27 ex Kaiser Wilhelm marks his seventy fourth birthday with attendance by former crown prince Louis Ferdinand and princes Eitel Friedrich and August Wilhelm, Grand Duke Albrecht of Wuerttenberg and other German nobility. A morning church service precedes an evening banquet and a film of Berlin’s steel helmet display. The ex Kaiser sent greetings but did not attend.
Kansas City American Association club sold to a syndicate headed by E Lee and Tris Speaker MOOutfielder. The Des Moines publisher group acquires the team in a noted baseball ownership transfer.
Gov White backed relief measures win quick House and Senate action in Columbus. Three emergency relief bills re enact present laws, a fourth diverts gasoline tax funds to finance relief, while a separate anti prohibition bill advances. Mildern proposes canceling unpaid road assessments and eight million rebates to property owners.
Captain Giles C. Stedman of the American Merchant resumes sea duty 24 hours after port, guiding 22 Exeter City survivors and their late master Captain Ernest Legge. The crew hails him a stout lad and he earns the heroism Medal of the City of New York for saving mariners.
Lima January 27. Sanity hearing for Loren E. Truesdale 23 accused of killing his brother Earl 2 and Thelma Woods 17 likely to conclude late today before Judge Lowell C. Bodey Urbana. The prosecutor asked that Truesdale be committed to Lima State Hospital for a 30 day period of observation.
Youngstown area activity is expected to rise to 2 percent of capacity next week, up from 15 percent currently, according to UP dispatches.
Robert Swyers of Athens was arrested by Athens police on intoxication charges. He will be arraigned before Mayor Robert B. Wood tonight.
Walton Kramp and hundreds of Wood County farmers stopped an Inter-County Finance Co sale at Kramp’s three mile west Bowling Green farm. The mob prevented bidding on the mortgage and bought the property in small lots totaling 14 dollars before deed back to Kramp. Farmers accuse lenders of charging high interest on farm implements and equipment.
Ford Motor Company plants across the United States shut down indefinitely as Briggs Manufacturing and Murray Body Corporation workers strike over wages. About 6,000 workers at the two sites halted production delaying new Ford models while officials cited price pressures and supply losses. Most strikers reportedly ready to return though leaders say the stand could last.
Ohio representatives spark a legislative scramble over a bribe claim. Rep Ortho Barr of Lima announced plans to introduce a resolution for an inquiry into a dinner hosted by the Ohio Association of Personal Finance Companies. Rep Forest Hall of Guernsey County alleged he was offered 1000 dollars by a lobbyist to drop his bill.
Charles A Willams a 64 year old attorney and longtime Bartlett resident died at his home from a heart attack. A native of the district he helped establish a central school and contributed to the building of a major route. He was active in county politics and is survived by four children including Mrs Vern Harris of Sharpsburg.
Senator Carter Glass of Virginia has accepted the appointment as Secretary of the Treasury in the Roosevelt Cabinet. Senate foe Thomas J. Walsh of Montana also accepts the Attorney General post, while Senator Hiram Johnson of California is reportedly offered a cabinet role.
Governor White seeks to avert trouble in the Eastern Ohio coalfield over wage cuts by operators. Senator Farr Lewis and Rep. W. T. Roberts accompanied miners to discuss implications of wages dropping to 30 cents per ton versus the 38 cent rate, and a $5.28 daily wage. Conferences with operators are planned to address the issue.
London January 27. Former chancellor Reginald McKenna warns Britain should not return to the gold standard unless a stable standard is clearly possible. He notes Britain’s pound has been more stable than the dollar since the suspension, as bankers Goodcough and Goschen echo Abe. The 1932 US business level sits well below 1931, while Britain’s remains nearly steady.
Ohio officials elected last fall must accept salary cuts under a 1932 law Bricker says applies to terms beginning this year. The constitution blocks mid term pay changes but the law took effect January 1 and was enacted October 3, 1932.
Martin J. Ineall, once a Chicago utilities magnate, was ordered to appear before a Toronto judge on a provisional warrant seeking his extradition to Cook County Illinois to face grand larceny and embezzlement charges.
Roosevelt outlines a thorough plan to reorganize federal supervision of public utilities. Aimed at creating a central agency to regulate power and communications, the move seeks economy by consolidating dispersed agencies and could extend federal oversight to telephone telegraph and radio. Railway executives have pressed for regulation parity with railroads.
Ross Betz former Gallia County commissioner was found dead in his Fifth Street home at 3:30 p m Thursday. He had been in ill health for months and apoplexy was the cause. He previously operated a local brick plant and is survived by a daughter, Mrs Garnet Cromiey, and another daughter, Mrs May Frances, both of Gallipolis. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Bluffton College to hold a community auction on campus to raise funds for student tuition. Col. B. C. Springer leads the event with items donated by private citizens and by sons and daughters of local farmers and merchants. Proceeds finance student education.
Sir Dewey Hunter aged 25 of Millfield Route 1 and Inez Smith aged 21 of Athens Route 3 are listed as a couple on a marriage license where both parties are children of their respective fathers and mothers.
A Santa Monica dispatch reports the Glass banking bill passing the Senate amid a raucous debate. The letter references Carter Glass as a monetary authority and notes France’s stake in the debt settlement while asserting the nation will begin payments under the new accord.
A WPA worker recalled forgetting the girl’s murder after a film and sleep before confessing to authorities in Brooklyn. Detective Demarrain nabbed Lloyd Price 22, who previously faced an attempted child assault charge in 1930. Price described luring the girl with a penny, strangling her with a clothesline, then returning home to eat and sleep. His mother identified a pencil found beside the body as belonging to her late husband.
The Ohio Commission on Unemployment Insurance submitted Part II of its final report to Governor White. It calls for immediate state action toward a compulsory unemployment insurance plan, arguing industry can bear the burden while noting 1929 dividends and 1932 wages show large disproportions in declines.

Joseph Green and Frank Hines were fined $25 and costs each for violations of state child labor laws tied to performances by Mitzi Green at the Hippodrome Theater. The penalties were suspended after the first appearance, with warrants sworn by the Child Labor Law inspector Mina Green left for Louisville after the engagement ended.
Karl White was fined 100 dollars plus costs by Marate C H Porter after pleading guilty to possession of intoxicating liquor. He paid the fine and costs.
