In De Forest near Warren, Charles Roth aged 57 shot and killed his estranged wife aged 38 and then took his own life with a shotgun. The couple had been separated for some time and Roth returned this morning after a failed reconciliation attempt.
Jack Newman of Plantsville pleaded guilty before Magistrate Pearl Miller to an intoxication charge and was fined five dollars plus costs. He paid the fine. Constable Harry Junod arrested him.
A fire at the First Christian Church in Jackson postponed the funeral of Mrs. J. W. Horton, 60, for 30 minutes on Monday.

Columbus Jan 24 Rep E R King Republican Vinton County says laws allowing absentee ballots sparked election frauds in many Ohio counties. King has a bill before the House to repeal the provisions and claims in smaller counties, absentee voting helps tilt outcomes by a few votes.
Columbus January 24 Ohio has ratified the Norris Lame Duck Amendment to the Federal Constitution Approval was voted by the General Assembly on a favorable report of the Federal Relations Committee The amendment was brought up for a vote under a suspension of the rules
An unnamed middle aged man walked into the Ohio River and drowned Monday as Mr and Mrs Albert Pearson watched. Local authorities reported no identifying details about the deceased.
The Ohio House Civil Service Committee postponed action on Rep. E. R. King’s nepotism bill. It would ban public employees if spouses’ combined salaries exceed 3000 dollars a year and require resignation or salary reductions within 30 days. King may amend or substitute the measure.

Clifford R. Quillen of Ashland Kentucky pleaded guilty in United States District Court to conspiracy to violate the National Automobile Theft Act. He was rearrested for transporting a stolen car from Lexington Kentucky to Kenova West Virginia. Suspended two year prison sentences were given to Francis W Marting and Wilbur Jones. Quillen was said to be part of a gang disposing of many stolen vehicles.
The Messenger introduces a new Daily Price Index based on 19 Bradstreet commodities in the United States. Economist Joseph Stagg Lawrence devised the index, weighting items like wheat, corn, hogs, steel, cotton, and oil to reflect daily market trends.
Governor White proposes new taxes and appropriations in a special message. The plan includes a one cent tax on five cent soft drink sales and five cents per pound on malt, plus a ten percent levy on manufactured tobacco and cigars.
