Dr Wayne Carle outlines the Purdy master plan to reorganize Ohio's 712 school districts into administrative and area educational districts. It aims to boost efficiency, improve services, and ensure equitable education, with a July 1970 deadline and financing left to the legislature.
Trimble Local School District taxes have remained largely unchanged with a small rise for the Tri-County Joint Vocational School. Superintendent George Sasser notes Trimble's tax rate is 17.7 mills, the lowest in Athens County, while per pupil costs and funding sources are detailed. Federal and state funds cover about 75 percent of total expenditures.
Eleven Corning Volunteer Fire Department members extinguished a woods fire on the Jesse Morgan property two miles west of Corning. Firefighters arrived at 5 30 p m and stayed about 30 minutes. Timber workers had started a fire that spread to the woods. a bulldozer helped contain it. No major damage due to light winds.
Mrs Marie Erwin named manager of the Athens branch of the Automobile Club of Southern Ohio announced by John P Irwin executive vice president. Former hospital supervisor she completed training and will oversee club activities and world wide travel services from Athens office succeeding Aleen La Point. The club with 22 000 members in 10 counties celebrates its 50th anniversary and has new offices on Columbus Road. Mrs Erwin, Portsmouth native, graduate of Valley Local High School, has three children David Diane and Michele.
The Trimble Local Band Boosters set a 7 p.m. Tuesday meeting in the Glouster school cafeteria. A uniform company representative will share information on uniforms or parts for purchase before the next marching season. All interested persons are urged to attend to help select styles and colors. Refreshments will be provided.
