In Athens County Sheriff Charles Stratton's wife assisted by alerting officials after a Plains resident reported a stolen car on Route 50 South. She contacted Sheriff Gardner and Marshal Henderson, who recovered the vehicle and detained the suspect within about 20 minutes, though the thief's identity remained unknown at noon.
Pittsburg January 19 A 15 cent per barrel price reduction for all Pennsylvania grade crude oil was announced by the Joseph Seep Agency for South Penn Oil Company customers. New prices include Southwest Pennsylvania $1.27 Eureka Pipe Line $1.22 Buckeye Pipe Line $1.07 and a Tidewater Oil Company Bradford and Allegheny crude drop to $1.57.
At Peiping on January 19 strong Chinese forces under Marshal Chang Hsien Liang prepared to repel Japanese invasion along the Jehol border. Fierce fighting raged outside the Great Wall amid heavy snow. Chinese regulars and irregulars resisted while reports said two Japanese armored trains were hit near Chaoyang.

Andrew Molnar a Campbell Ohio sophomore at George Washington University shot himself after shredding a letter from home. He left a note asking police to notify his mother Mrs. M Precznyk of Campbell. Roommate said he had been despondent for days and reacted angrily to the home letter.
Ralph Wines pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in Athens County Common Pleas Court. Judge Rowland fined him 100 dollars plus costs and suspended his driving rights for six months. Roy Tignor pleaded guilty to assault and battery. sentence suspended with one year probation. Other judgments include notes against Campbell families and Campbells, totaling thousands, with interest and varying dates.
Fort Wayne Indiana January 19. Distilling equipment at the Berghoff Brewing Company plant was readied for beer production after a Chicago banking syndicate led by F A Brewer announced control. The plant, with capacity for 2 4 million bottles yearly, had produced near beer during prohibition and serves Indiana Michigan Ohio Kentucky Virginia and West Virginia.
