Veal Production Hope Shines for Area Farmers
Ed Sel Gainer, West Virginia University extension dairy specialist, says veal calf production can add income for area farmers. Research shows certain milk replacers with at least 10 percent fat work best for vealing, with cautions about health risks from calves from multiple sources and the need to limit operation size and market development. Returns may reach 10 to 12 dollars per calf when markets and costs align.
