Rotary Told Settlement Hurt Industry And Union

Arthur F. Johnston, manager of industrial relations for Carborundum Co. at Niagara Falls, told Logan Rotary last night that government intervention in the steel strike settlement harmed both the industry and the union. He said a settlement by collective bargaining would have been better and quicker, without the Taft Hartley cooling off period. Johnston noted the possible rise in steel prices due to union gains and cited his mixed experience with management and unions. Grant Byrnes introduced the speaker. Dr. Chet Brian attended as a guest.
