President reduces budget to 97.9 billion. Goldwater pleased by reception in New Hampshire as he presses bid for the Republican nomination. He greets voters, signs autographs, and urges campaign workers to avoid bitterness that could divide Republicans in November.
President Johnson unveiled a revised 1965 fiscal plan totaling 97.9 billion dollars and urged Congress to pass a broad civil rights bill. He announced a 25 percent cut in enriched uranium production by June 30 and urged space and moon missions by 1970, while promising strong defense and expanded social programs.
Michigan Governor George Romney hinted at a genuine draft duty and suggested he could claim a place on the first ballot at the San Francisco convention next July. Observers view the move as a power play to boost a national role in politics.
London reports the Board of Trade will allow Leyland Motors to export 400 buses and 1.1 million dollars in spare parts to Cuba under a five year credit plan. Leyland aims to ship about 100 buses monthly starting in April, despite U S criticism of the deal.

Ohio chairman Ray Bliss pushes a Rhodes loyalist plan with a May 5 primary. Goldwater weighs entering Ohio on the first ballot.
Xavier University officials refuse Gov. Ross Barnett of Mississippi a speaking platform on campus citing his segregation stance. Student body president Rudolph Hass had invited him, triggering calls for official clarification while Hass argues students could critically assess Barnett’s views.
A 58 year old man Friedrich Motter his wife Helene 50 and their three sons ages 9 14 and 24 escaped East Berlin by sliding down ropes from an abandoned border apartment near Luckauer Platz into West Berlin during a snowstorm. Motter and two sons sustained rope burns and Mrs Motter broke an ankle in the escape.
In Cleveland attorney Walter S. Haffner awaits a possible last minute U S Supreme Court stay to prevent Willie Mae Mallorys extradition to Monroe North Carolina where she is charged with aiding in a 1961 interracial kidnapping. Mallory who fled to Cleveland after indictment faces possible return to be handed to a lynch mob case. The FBI arrested her in 1961 and former Governor DiSalle ordered the extradition which was challenged as violating her rights and fair trial assurances.
In Bhubaneswar Nehru 74 is reported brighter after a restful night as doctors order rest and no engagements for two weeks. An associate said he might be back on the job in another day while Congress president Kumarawami Kamara Nadar visits and reports the premier in excellent health and spirits.
Temperatures will run near normal with highs 37 to 44 and lows 22 to 27. Expect colder days Thursday and Friday, a slight warmup by the weekend, then colder again Monday. Rain or snow Thursday with snow flurries possible through Monday.
New York sources say Elizabeth Taylor will file for divorce from Eddie Fisher this week. Fisher and Taylor’s lawyers, plus Taylor’s fiancé Richard Burton, met for two days without a settlement, Fisher calling the process boring. A close associate says Taylor intends to file in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, despite the stalled multi‑million settlement.
Fire at Benedict Inc coal mine scale house on Route 93 north of McArthur caused about 1000 in damage. Fire chief Loyd Gill said the blaze smoldered overnight and likely started in a box of waste paper. Alarm rang at 6 20 a m with heat melting a telephone and damaging scales supports and office gear.
Police searched three dormitories at Central State College on Tuesday and arrested two students for possessing narcotics. Wendell Jackson, 22, of Chicago and Michael Levy, 20, of West Englewood New Jersey, were taken into custody. Officers confiscated two sticks of marijuana along with wrapping and packaging.
William Alexander McDiarmid and Maggie McDiarmid, trapped in bush east of Watson Lake, survived 30 days on six pounds of dog food found in an empty cabin after leaving Larsen Lake December 5. They were rescued by a bush pilot and Mounties, flown to Watson Lake in good condition.
Clarence A. Parker 67 of 335 East State Street, once Athens fire chief, died unexpectedly Tuesday at Hocking Valley Sportsman Club Farm. He had gone to the club to work his bird dogs. his body was found in the woods at about 3 30 p m by Clarence Ackley and Kenneth Carman after his wife raised the alarm. Coroner Dr. C F Patton ruled death from a heart attack.
A Post Office mail bus and a flatbed truck collided on a West Virginia Turnpike bridge north of Beckley killing five people. Three victims were Post Office clerks sorting mail aboard the van en route from Charleston to Beckley. victims also include the bus and truck drivers.
Eight county Democrat chairmen endorsed former Congressman Walter Moeller who will run again and named delegates and alternates to the convention. Moeller, a NASA public relations man, is expected to resign civil service in late February and return to Lancaster. Also endorsed were R. Kenneth Kerr and Mary Gallagher for their leadership posts, with Raymond Spitzer and John Ayers named as delegates and E. B. Young and Ernest Wingett as alternates. In Honolulu, search for a missing C124 Globemaster and nine crew continued into a seventh day as planes surveyed the mid Pacific.
