Wealthy Athens County landowner commits suicide in farm home
Chase, Jan. 6. John M. Chase a wealthy Athens County landowner aged 60 ended his life by cutting his throat with a razor in his farm home. He had risen early, spent time with his son Oscar, and shortly after breakfast was found dead. The cause is unclear, though mental unbalance is suspected. He leaves four sons, two daughters, a sister Mrs Mary Martin, and served in Civil War three months. Funeral at the local church.

Mrs L D Poston Dies After Illness in Nelsonville
The death of 24 year old Mrs L D Poston at her Nelsonville home followed months of rheumatism and heart trouble. She suffered two paralytic strokes and had been ill since girlhood. Born Jessie Yeley, she was daughter of Mr and Mrs George Tow sley of Athens and longtime Athens resident.

Uniform Rank and Knights of Pythias members gathered in Corning to elect officers for the reorganized Fifth regiment. F E Goldsberry elected lieutenant colonel unanimously. Dr. F P McVay named aid de camp with major rank. Captains Williams and MecDowall elected majors, and memorial services planned for the first Sunday in June.

Pioneer of Ames Amesville dies at age 84
Mrs. Julia Dean also known as Mrs. Clark died Friday January 2 while visiting daughter Mrs. Teresa Joy in Joy Morgan County. In her 84th year she lived with son Geo E Clark in Ames. Her first husband Geo Clark Sr. was killed by Indians in 1849. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Huber officiating.
