Athens approves plans for a new library on campus funded by a $40,000 Carnegie grant plus $10,000 from Ohio University and $1,000 from the Board of Education, with $3,000 yearly upkeep and $5,000 for maintenance. A probate court settlement concerns the estate of the late William Schalis of Lee township with ninety seven defendants scattered across the states. Hiram Crossen of Albany is administrator, heirs at law are defendants in the sale of real estate. Schalis left no children and his will dedicates proceeds to a monument for himself and wife in Hebbardsville cemetery, a cenotaph reportedly costing about $1500.

John Walsh aged 65 died at his home three miles south of town on Tuesday evening after a months long illness with liver trouble. A stalwart citizen and liberal St. Paul’s Church supporter, his death is deplored. funeral at St. Paul’s Church Friday at 9:30 conducted by Rev. J. B. Mattingly. Interment in Catholic Cemetery.

Two Huffman Brothers Nearly Suffocated by Gas
H H and A B Huffman, Dayton university students, were found unconscious in W N Andrews residence room after a portable gas stove hose loosened. Neighbors were alerted by a noise, windows were opened, and both were rescued. They expect full recovery in a day or two.

Sudden Death of Charles S. Miller at Hotel Athens
Charles S. Miller, 60, chief engineer of the Athens Amesville and Chauncey railroad, died of heart failure early Saturday at Hotel Athens after a brief illness. He had lived in Athens three months and previously resided in Columbus. Remainder of remains sent to Columbus for funeral services and interment. he was single and known for his role in early Hocking Valley history.

Young Mrs Logan Injured At Washington Street Home
Mrs Henry Logan, seven years old, slipped in the yard on Washington Street and broke her left arm just above the wrist. This marks a string of misfortunes for her, including a broken leg last February and a near fatal scald in 1886. The Sunday accident will keep her housebound for several weeks.

Death of Mrs Bean in Guysville after lingering illness
