Pomeroy Village Council okays a 1972 budget totaling 621,906.28 with allocations for mayor clerk treasurer solicitor and various department funds. Funds cover general administration police fire street utilities water sewer bond retirement and debt service with specific line items for salaries, supplies, and capital outlay.
Ina Massar of Meigs County displays a 15 year salt and pepper shaker collection with forms from many countries. A former head cook at Eastern High School and auxiliary volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hospital, she cherishes crafting, gardening, and helping others, praising Eastern High School students.
Eastern Local School District board votes to end cross-district attendance. Meigs Local releases remain for current Meigs enrollees. Ten Meigs High School students were suspended for dress code violations after prior warnings and a parent letter before Christmas. Despite being summoned to the office and urged to comply, they refused, risking up to ten days out of school with possible reinstatement on compliance.
Pomeroy girls will be interviewed January 14 at the K. T. Crossen Post of the American Legion 520 W Union St Athens. Ken Malone east coast director will attend the Legion hall at 6 pm for interviews. Open to girls ages three to twelve with two divisions La Petite and Little Miss. RACINE Two school board members sworn in at Southern High School Organizational Meeting David Nease re elected Grover Salser Jr sworn in as trustee and officer lineup set for monthly meetings.
The Rio Grande Women's Association announces its annual Fellowship Tea for February. At Middleport First Baptist Church the B. H. Sanborn Missionary Society met with organ prelude, devotions on The New Year, Love Gift readings, and dedications. Social dessert followed in the social rooms prepared by church members.
The Middleport Fire Department was called to Dallas Blevins residence on Lincoln Street at 5:45 p.m. Monday for smoke damage. A second call at 7:23 p.m. to Park Street noted the fire extinguished on arrival. Beta Sigma Phi Ohio Eta Phi plans a Tuesday 7:30 p.m. meeting at Mrs. Ron Hanning’s home with a “Pictures” report by Charlotte Taunton and Charlotte Hanning and a pizza party to follow. Eastern High School freshmen sponsor a jitney supper Friday evening 5–7 p.m. at the high school with soup, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and desserts.
