Athens Council adjourns after heated first meeting debate
Athens city council opened the new year with a contentious session over ward representation and city parking. Floyd Wolfe’s Dec 31 resignation from First Ward was announced. Foster Coe was informally named as successor, but six Republican members balked and tabled the move. Other business included street lighting funding, a $2 million appropriation, police cruiser purchase and discussions on engineering bids for demolition and sewer projects. The meeting closed amid complaints about illegal parking and curbside traffic near the old post office.
