Mechanization Prompts Push to Boost Ohio Coal Sales
President Wallace opened the meeting noting mechanization is here to stay and the Foundation must work harder to expand Ohio coal markets. Mettler’s survey across 10 Northern Ohio cities shows strong consumer support east of Mansfield but opposition between Mansfield and Lima. Dealers praise Ohio coal yet blame truck competition for pricing and grading gaps. A call for standardized coal grading by heat units and ash content emerges as a solution, with a Cedar Point dealers meeting planned and a January 18 Nelsonville gathering scheduled.
