Mayo Clinic expert Dr. Pritish Tosh warns that dirty sponges spread germs and can cause food poisoning through cross contamination. Use a clean towel each morning and run sponges through the dishwasher when possible. Ensure plenty of soap and water to wash surfaces and hands.
