South Apparently Keeps Its Single-Party Label
In the South the Democratic label remains dominant despite talk of a Republican boom. Republicans lack the ground organization, funds, and leadership for a two party fight at precints and courthouses, with exceptions in Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, Louisiana, and North Carolina. The Eisenhower movement boosts Republican hopes, provoking clashes with old guard Taft supporters over party control.
