Youth Facing Kidnap Charge in Montreal

Police filed a kidnapping charge against 16 year old Robert Patenaude after he seized Barbara Nemeroff, three year old daughter of Morris Nemeroff, with a demand for $50,000. The child was found in a Montreal crowd and returned unharmed to her parents.

Pilot Forced To Land Near Jackson Road

A light sea plane developed motor trouble and forced an emergency landing near state highway 776 southwest of Jackson. Pilot Ernest Arthur Patton, 28, of Seth West Virginia, suffered minor injuries and was uninjured enough to exit the wreck. The plane from Capital City Air and Marine Base of Charleston had previously landed on the Ohio River at Huntington before diverting. Cecil Miller of Seth was reportedly a passenger, though not confirmed by patrol records.

Pilot Dies In Flight On United Stratocruiser

The pilot on a United Airlines Stratocruiser collapsed and died two hours after leaving Honolulu for Los Angeles. First Officer W A Mantross of Redondo Beach piloted the return to Honolulu without incident. Capt L C Brown, 46, of Los Angeles, is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Fire destroys building behind Pickaway County Children's Home

Fire in Circleville destroys a two story frame building behind the children's home causing about 10000 dollars in damage. The upper floor housed a gym and clothing storage while the lower floor contained a garage and tool shop. Fire crews from Circleville Ashville and Amanda quelled the blaze. The children's home itself was unharmed.

Puzzle Expert Robert Towne Dies at 86 in Ambler

Robert D. Towne, famed for the riddle How old is Ann, died at 86 after a long illness in Ambler Pennsylvania. A Warren Ohio native, he edited Judge Magazine in 1905, began as a minister after St Lawrence University, and helped found the Progressive Party backing Theodore Roosevelt in 1912.

Isaly Dairy official dies in apparent suicide

Coroner S. R. Gerber ruled death by self act in the Statler Hotel Columbus room of Ruhland Isaly 43 vice president and general manager of Isaly Dairy Co. Columbus and Mansfield divisions. Police say he left a note for his wife and had been missing since Friday morning. Burial planned in Mansfield Memorial Park after private services.

About 100 U S airmen and Coast Guardsmen marked the seventh anniversary of the Iwo Jima flag raising in a cold rain on Mount Suribachi. Three rifle volleys and bugle calls preceded a wreath laid at the Suribachi monument. the island battle left about 5 000 American Marines and 22 000 Japanese soldiers dead.

Lausche Urges Medal for 15 Year Old Sally Beamer

Gov. Frank J. Lausche recommended a national Young American Medal for bravery for Sally Beamer of Sandusky. She rescued a four year old boy who fell into 12 feet of water at Battery Park basin dock last year. The boy’s parents moved him away before his identity could be learned. War Enters 21st Month In Korea Front Holds Quiet

The Korean war entered its 21st month with minimal fighting as heavy clouds and snow grounded most Allied airpower.
