Gunman Giuseppe Zangara is sentenced to up to twenty years on several counts, including assault with intent to kill President-elect Roosevelt. He pleaded guilty as prosecutors described the failed assassination on the president and named eight others hurt or killed, including Chicago Mayor Cermak. The courtroom was closely guarded as Zangara faced the judge and recounted the attack.

Columbus Feb 20 The Ohio House will vote Wednesday on Rep MecCrystal's Erie County Democrat bill calling for a November popular vote on repealing the state prohibition amendment. A Senate version by Sen Smolka is before the Temperance Committee. Gov White favors aligning Ohio law with any federal repeal action and seeks machinery for a state convention to ratify the Eighteenth Amendment repeal.
Six year old Jack Ruth may lose sight in his right eye after an arrow shot by his brother Robert Ruth pierced the eyeball during a cowboy Indian game at a cousin’s home near Jerseyville. The boys, sons of Mr and Mrs Robert Ruth, fashioned a crude bow from a hickory limb and used a weed as an arrow before the injury. Jack was taken to an Athens physician for treatment.
Unemployed residents began registration today for Berea’s combined barter and scrip relief plan. Civic groups and Mayor John J. Bae sel met Sunday night. council approval is pending. About $500 in scrip in small denominations will be issued for a barter exchange of goods and labor.
President elect Franklin D. Roosevelt mailed a letter of thanks to Mrs. W. F. Cross of Miami who deflected the aid of Giuseppi Zangara and possibly saved him from a bullet He also thanked thousands who congratulated him on his escape from harm.

The saving preserves Marine Corps strength and navy efficiency while mandating wage cuts and elimination of luxuries for admirals. A 30 percent pay cut for navy yard workers is proposed to equalize government and private shipyard pay, saving about 13 514 827 annually.

One man was identified as John Egan, 33, an escaped Sing Sing convict, another as Michael Patsy Griffin, 45, the bartender. The woman, about 26, was described as an expensively dressed brunette and remained unidentified.
Samuel J. Patatercon, 55, chief investigator in the state fire marshal’s office, died at his Columbus home Sunday morning and will be buried in Maryville on Tuesday.
