The M. P. Totman store building in Broadwell Athens County was destroyed by a morning fire after 8. It was a 42 by 52 foot frame structure valued at 5 000 to 6 000 dollars and partly insured. The first floor housed a general store and the second floor had nine rooms used for a barber shop and barbershop work by James Foutch. The blaze began after Foutch had started the stove and left for breakfast.
Vanderbilt announces plans to file a libel action against Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler unless he retracts a quoted Mussolini incident remark. Vanderbilt says Butler misrepresented a confidential November 1930 meeting and violated an agreement of silence, giving a garbled print version.
