Blackout Cast Darkness Over Midtown Manhattan

A transformer failed Sunday night in New York City cutting power for over four hours. Nine TV stations went off air and visitors on the Empire State Building observatories were stranded. Traffic slowed without signals and many dinners became candlelit. Editors worked by candlelight until power returned.

Israel Keeps Troop Posture For Canal Peace Talks

Israel plans to refuse full troop withdrawal from the Suez Canal until a peace agreement is reached while keeping room to reduce front line forces. Prime Minister Golda Meir will outline the position to the Knesset as Egypt’s Anwar Sadat seeks a 30 day cease fire extension and partial withdrawal.
