Telephone Firm Seeks Rate Hike Approval in Ohio

The Ohio Public Utilities Commission is asked to authorize higher telephone rates across several districts including Jackson and the Pomeroy Middleport exchange. Company officials say the move reflects rising operating costs and would bolster earnings, with Jackson district residential lines rising from 3.25 to 4.25 dollars and other service charges adjusted. Long distance rates remain unchanged. The overhaul aims for about a 5.57 percent return on plant investment.
