Second Radio Signal Heard Over Smith River Search
In Whitehorse YT a second radio signal was received from the Smith River area during the week long hunt for a missing C 54 and 44 occupants. Air Commodore Martin Costello coordinating the U S Canada search noted the signal on the 500 kilocycle distress band and said it comprised a series of V V V. A prior signal prompted planes to converge on the Smith River zone about 300 miles southeast of Whitehorse. Canadian press reported a third voice transmission south of Aishihik about 105 miles northeast of Whitehorse along the expected route.
