Quest Stanson Leaders of Groups Going to Columbus
Athens County Selective Service Board No 1 sent two groups to Fort Hayes in Columbus for induction and pre induction physicals. Hal Quest leader of the 15 man induction group and Victor Stanson led the pre induction group. Of 28 slated for induction two were transferred elsewhere and one from another board joined. Navy reports losses in Philippines naval action
The Navy announced today the loss of two mine sweepers and a tank landing ship in the Philippines. The damaged mine sweepers were the Hovey and the Palmer, both converted World War One destroyers, and the landing ship was the LST 758. Normal crews are about 120 for a mine sweeper and 64 for an LST.

Deacon To Come Home From War After Three Years Overseas
Lt. Col. Howard Hively, pilot of a P-51 in the Eighth Air Forces, was cited as finishing his war service and returning home within a month depending on transport. He has completed over 260 missions and earned the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross with three clusters, Ayr Medal with four clusters, Purple Heart, British Air Medal, Canadian Star, two Presidential Unit Citations, and four EFO battle stars. Mrs Eva Trout of New Marsh field received a War Department telegram stating her son Corporal Dillon Trout was slightly wounded in action in Belgium on January 11. He serves in the Armored Division of General Patton's Third Army, entered service May 12, 1941, and went overseas in 1944. His sister and brother-in-law live nearby and his brother resides in Covington.

Auto Title Office Reports January Fees and Vehicle Totals
Alberta Grones, clerk of courts, reports January certificates of title fees totaling 175.80 dollars. Of this, 120.65 went to the county treasury and 55.15 to the state.
