Washington reports leaders say allied and American aid could unite Russian factions the Omsk government in the east the Archangel government in the north and the Kiev government in the south to drive Reds of Russia from Germany’s path.
Ath ens county faces a busy dog catcher as unlicensed dogs must be captured starting New Year’s Day. Fewer than 500 licenses issued to date, with over 4000 dogs registered since 1918. The 1919 tags differ in color from 1918's.
United Press figures indicate the proposed constitutional amendment to make the nation bone dry could be ratified by enough states within weeks. War time prohibition would take effect July 1, affecting about 33 states, with 15 already ratified and New York Connecticut Wisconsin not expected to vote in favor.

Dr. A C Wolfe ear and throat specialist of Columbus is seriously ill at Grant hospital after two operations. He is a man in the fifties and a former Ohio University student who began practicing medicine at Jacksonville. He is nephew of F S Wolfe of Lancaster street and uncle of the late George Harvey of Columbus whom he attended during his last illness.
Frank R. Speck secretary at the university Y M C A will teach Class Six tomorrow. He came from the base hospital at Chillicothe where he was secretary of the Y M C A and is known as an organizer and teacher in the New Philadelphia Methodist church. His teaching may draw students staying home for fear of flu.
Word arrives from Cincinnati that a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. DeForest Murch on December 27, 1918. The child names James De Forest Jr. Mrs. Murch is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Cameron of this city, and Mr. Murch is the son of Rev. and Mrs. E. D. Murch of this city.
Athens launches its first New Year gift drive for the first baby born after midnight December 31. Merchants and citizens donate items from infant gear to services, with prizes including clothing, a gold ring, and a theatre ticket package. Calls encouraged to contribute through I. M. Foster or the Messenger Baby Editor.
Washington reports 68000 American soldiers had been returned from overseas by December 21 and over 600000 mustered out of service within the U S. The House Military Committee heard details at a War Department briefing. Officers are being discharged rapidly with 22000 released since the armistice. Largest numbers are in Chemical Warfare service and fewest in the medical section. Troop movements from ships now US controlled are limited to 160000 monthly, with hopes to raise to 200000 or 300000.
Dec 28 Paris reports George Creel, chairman of the committee on public information, states he has not resigned but plans to quit and return to the United States after settling affairs here.
In Marietta on December 28 a man named Nice is charged with ermitting his twelve year old son William Nice to hunt with a guard. Another suspect, Eric Root, was bonded for trapping without the owner's permit. Both cases were heard before Justice O Neill with various bonds and scheduled appearances in January 1919. Jess Love of Cutler mentioned among those arrested by Fish and Game.
Camp Sherman reports show only a small number of officers and men wish to remain in the regular army after peace. Three enlisted men in the 95th Division expressed willingness to stay. officers are more inclined, especially second lieutenants, while many first lieutenants and captains prefer civilian status.
A gasoline tank seal for automobiles allows air to replace fuel fed to the carburetor but blocks evaporation or spillage through the cap.
Miss Alberta L. Dunn of Clackamas county Oregon is the youngest woman county treasurer in the United States. At twenty three she was appointed to fill her late father’s term, won the Republican nomination last May, and was elected in November.
From United Berlin dispatch dated December 26 76 reports government forces renewed bombardment of the Royal Palace killing several mutinous sailors. The defenders finally surrendered. General von Hindenburg is said to march on Berlin to restore order. Bolsheviks will control the former socialist paper Vorwaerts.
William G. McAdoo plans to open a law office in New York about April 1 and will stay on as director general of the railways until a Wilson appointee succeeds him.
A Berlin dispatch reports Ebert’s government nearly overthrown with Scheidemann fleeing the city. It predicts a new cabinet including Karl Liebknecht and George Ledebour and the formation of a Central Soviet.
In Grand Rapids on December 28 Judge C W Sessions ruled the Michigan 2 cent fare law valid in United States district court.
