President Wilson reviewed 8000 American troops at Langres and told them the peace plan for the world had been charted by the United States and accepted by all involved. He praised the soldiers and said the settlement must be a peoples peace as he toured billets and was cheered by locals.
The soldiers and workers' council now controls German affairs as crowds gather before the Reichstag to hear Philip Scheidemann proclaim a republic. He delivers from the base of Bismarck's statue, the Iron Chancellor, in a symbolic speech.
The lake steamer AliHama bound for Chicago with Christmas passengers was forced from Chicago harbor into mid lake by a Tuesday storm and later docked at Muskegon after thirty hours adrift. Passengers, many sick, report sandwiches as the only food during the ordeal.
Seventy five negro soldiers of the 15th Infantry quartermaster corps are under heavy guard at the army building in Brooklyn after looting saloons and sparking a near riot. Saloonkeepers refused service. soldiers looted and police failed to control the scene. The quartermaster’s department sent military police to quell the disturbance.
Newly elected officers of Paramathia Lodge No. 25, F. and A. M. were installed in a private ceremony due to health board restrictions on large gatherings. The epidemic halted two months of initiation work, costing Paramathia a potential record year. 1918 narrowly missed setting a historic high since 1814.
Chauncey, Dec 26 Tony De Mauro injured as his auto was struck by a labor train at lower Sugar Creek Tuesday evening. De Mauro, from Athens, crossed rails unaware of the approaching engine. car overturned and lost wheels windshield radiator. He was brought to Athens for treatment. condition not serious.
Washington observers report Speaker Champ Clark will pursue the Democratic presidential nomination in 1920 though no formal declaration is expected soon. The remark comes as Clark’s allies anticipate a long campaign.

Washington December 26 The War Department completed eight major demobilization districts for discharge of returning troops. Army commanders formed units as districts with each company drawn from a single district and assigned to its port. Ohio Indiana and Kentucky will be in the third district.
The Fuel Administration issued two zone modification orders allowing expanded shipment of bituminous coal from West Virginia Maryland and Pennsylvania to New England and Baltimore area. A second order enables Pennsylvania districts to ship coal to Baltimore. A separate notice revokes a prior export coke sale ban requiring a fuel administration permit.

New order says graduate physicians dentists and veterinarians now enlisted will be discharged on their own application.
London reports that British mint officials are examining Czcho Slovak plans for a new coinage modeled on the French franc. The proposal suggests coins based on French standards and design cues as part of the nation’s monetary move.
On the Bluff City pike at Orway Tennessee Charles Q. Godsey and his three young children were killed when their auto toppled over last night.
Phillip Schiedmann of the German cabinet told United Press he favors the peace settlement, expects a stable socialist government soon, and argues a constitutional government will work with Allies and the United States to end disorders and restore Germany’s position. The Sparatled movement is said to be fading as constitutional assembly dates are set.
Berlin reports say seventy sailors died and many hurt as the Ro Palace was stormed. Vorwaerts claims revolutionaries led by Liebknecht and Lede endure a victory claim while authorities say the plot was quickly crushed revealing sailors feel powerless to challenge the government. Kiel sailors condemn rebels and back the government.
President Wilson arrives in Dover from France on his way to London. His train lands in London at 2:30 p m. News items note nine Red Cross ambulances aiding Paris in flu relief efforts.
Washington declares misapprehension about cashing war saving certificates. War Savings Stamps and Thrift Stamps are as good as gold even if the certificates or thrift cards are not fully filled. The government will continue to issue thrift stamps for users to fit cards and exchange them for 1919 War Savings stamps.
