Trestle accident injures two Carpenter Bros. horses

A valuable Carpenter Bros. team driven toward Carbonhill wandered off under an intoxicated driver. The horses spanned a trestle where they fell, one leg broken and shot, the other badly injured, making the pair practically worthless. The incident underscores the drivers’ neglect and the team’s value to local work.

Christmas Dance Ends in Knife Attack in Grove

At a Grove Christmas Dance on December 20, a dispute over a lady led to an assault on Will Graney, 22, by a rival, Defenbaugh, who drew a knife and stabbed Graney in the hip. Graney remains in critical condition as Defenbaugh fled and had not been captured by noon.

Porter Couple Celebrate Fifth Wedding Anniversary

Sheriff C. H. Porter and his wife celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary at the sheriff's residence Saturday night. About fifty guests attended a luncheon at ten o'clock and the event featured elegant gifts, including two rockers a divan and a framed picture. The Porters and their two year old Bulking boy John Porter were the center of attention throughout the evening.

Waterloo Pioneer Nathan Llewellyn Dies at 72

Nathan Llewellyn, a longtime Waterloo township resident and Civil War veteran of an Ohio regiment, died at home from heart disease. He had suffered health decline, including a paralytic stroke in September near Athens. Funeral services are planned Thursday at the town house cemetery near Albany.

Worstell Brother Dies in Lewiston Idaho Gazetteed

Lawrence G Worstell of Grosvenor Jones Worstell received word Saturday that his brother Fisward Worstell of Lewiston Idaho has died. No cause given. The family notes an earlier connection to Tapgan and a later posting near Varneek Fortime in the Rockies. The deceased was reportedly booking company in Lewis Will. Funeral plans not stated.

Fainted Boy Burns Face In Grate Accident Near Athens

John Hope aged 2, at one mile west of Athens, fainted while alone and fell into a grate, burning the right side of his head and face. He regained consciousness, sought a mirror to assess injuries, and was found by his mother. Physicians treated severe swelling and pain.

Miss Flo Logan Dies After Illness at Columbus Hospital

Miss Flo Logan daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Logan of this city died early today at Sixth Avenue private hospital Columbus after a recent illness. She was 32 and had been in failing health for an extended period. She worked as a millinery trimmer in several shops. Two surgical operations for appendicitis were performed, one Wednesday and one Saturday, and though the operations were successful the patient died from complications of anesthesia. Her remains were brought to Athens Sunday night and laid at her parents home on Washington Street. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the M B church Rex Haddox officiating. The summons list included neighbors and relatives from Albany Marietta Hamden Jackson Parkersburg Nelsonville Carey and other nearby towns.

Large Barn Burns In Alexander Township Blaze

A large barn owned by Samuel V. Curtis in Alexander township burned Tuesday afternoon after catching fire from sparks within a mile of the dwelling.
