Mrs. Mary Jane Crippen aged about 96 died just after Christmas 1926 at her West Union Street home in Athens Ohio. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church with Dr A Y Wilcox officiating and burial in West Union Street Cemetery. Born 1829 in Canaan township she taught school after earning a teaching certificate from Green Brown. She married Hiram Crippen and had three sons Harvey John and Harry. Harvey survives with one grandchild Mrs Millard Gibson New York City. Her family and friends attended the funeral. she was widely regarded as a beloved Athens figure.
