Village Christmas Sidelights Include Poison Ivy and Dog in Manger
In a quiet village on Christmas Day shops closed and two movie houses stayed lit for screenings. The Blake family decorated a large tree felled in Mason County and Eddie rebuilt a bike for Johnnie, while Eddie’s railroad setup and football gear filled the Blake basement. A prankster client sent a gold-wrapped penny package to a broker and fifty dollars on corn cobs surprised an employee. Nearby the family’s manger scene showed H. W. Craig’s hound dog resting on straw, as the expectant animal loomed over the manger.
