Athens Christmas Home Decoration Contest Winners Named
In Athens the annual Christmas Home Decoration Contest winners were announced with total cash prizes of 225 dollars. First and second in three classifications religious traditional and lighting were awarded to listed residents and the event included honorary mentions and a Republican victory banquet planned for January 12 at the Athens Country Club. A separate case saw Dale Morrison plead guilty to intoxication, fined 25 dollars plus costs, and sentenced to three days in jail after resisting arrest.

Gasoline Pump Crash Sparks Fire at Fairmont Store
A truck driven by Albert Depoy hit a gasoline pump at the Fairmont Store on State Street in Athens at 1 a.m. The crash ruptured Kanoline and started a fire that damaged two tires and a door to the building. Fire Chief Dalton reports $500 damage and officials flushed away the gasoline. Also, Charles F Powell of Columbus was bound over to the grand jury on a non-support charge after denying the accusation in Municipal Court.

Paul K. Rongers, 28, Athens, will spend Christmas in the county jail. Pleading guilty to driving while under the influence, he was fined 125 dollars and costs, and sentenced to three days. His license was suspended. Five emergency workers gave first aid to Mrs Amy Scholer, 59, Athens Route 4, after she fell on the sidewalk. She was taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital with a slight head abrasion.
