Patterson sworn in as mayor of Athens city

Patterson sworn in as mayor as outgoing two term mayor Wiehl watches. He noted the Jan 1 start and chose Winter Solstice to mark brighter days ahead. He thanked family supporters and mentor Wiehl, while acknowledging future challenges for Athens after a quiet campaign.

Downtown flag art on greeting cards in Athens

Athens residents can buy greeting cards featuring student artwork from the Live Healthy Athens contest. Barb Kostohryz of Live Healthy Appalachia presented the project to the Athens City Council. Twenty three winners had their designs printed on thirty two flags used in the downtown flag display. Cards are sold at Donkey Coffee and Espresso, Lamborn's Studio and Framing, and Live Healthy Appalachia's office. The nonprofit plans new flag designs in spring 2017 with the contest returning the prior winter.

Former Hocking County detective indicted on OHLEG charge

Jeremy Dye, a former Hocking County Sheriff's detective, was indicted by the Hocking County Grand Jury on one count of unauthorized use of the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10,000 recog nizance bond. Dye resigned in 2014 and is represented by Scott Wood. The case involves claims of political or vendetta timing and immunity issues surrounding local officials.
