Paraguayan official report says 1500 Bolivian soldiers surrendered unconditionally at Loa and Abaroa on December 11. The regiments, totaling 1500 officers and men, capitulated amid the ongoing border conflict.

Five persons were committed to Athens County Jail over the weekend with four facing intoxication charges and one for non-support. Flo Rhodes, Oliver Tippie, Albert Deeter, and John Vincent were arrested on intoxication offenses by Deputies Roy E. Goldsberry and Karl Gardner, while Lawrence Whiteman was returned from Clarksburg WV to face non-support charges filed by his wife Edna.
In Columbus a burglar suspect died in a running gun battle after firing at Officer Hoffman who shot the suspect in the groin while on a taxi running board. Hoffman was wounded but survived as the cab sped through icy streets with heavy traffic.
Cincinnati bridge players hosted the American Bridge League tournament and captured three of four national contract trophies. Charles A. Hall and R. M. Wilberg won the national open contract pair title, then Hall Wilberg and Albert and Phillip Steiner of Cincinnati won the national open team of four, overcoming the eastern defending champs led by P Hal Sime and teammates.
Athens County re employment projects to engage 81 women led by Miss Helen Murray relief case supervisor. Five sewing headquarters will operate in Athens Nelsonville New Marshfield Glouster and The Plains with 10 to 20 workers each making bed clothing and later clothing from donations. Wages are 30 cents an hour for a 30 hour week under three Athens supervisors.
United States Senator Robert J. Bulkley of Cleveland condemned the proposed elimination of the state liquor monopoly saying the Senate Judiciary Committee action risks a licensing system with the same faults as the old saloon era. He warned the General Assembly may adopt a liquor licensing scheme with inherent vice.
ISTANBUL December 11 Nine widows mourned the Sheik Fahri as husbands across the Diarbekir District report his death in a half hour clash with gendarmes. Fahri and 14 bandits fell in the fight while five gendarmes died and seven were wounded. Fahri had amassed a fortune and kept nine wives amid raids on others.
Three convicts were in the jail hospital and two were in solitary confinement after they set fire to the three story brush shop at Massachusetts State Prison in Charleston in a vain escape attempt. The blaze endangered the men who had fled into the building from a line of prisoners returning to their cells after watching a movie.
Chicago report states Earle Wynekoop was freed on an accessory before the fact charge in the Rheta Wynekoop murder after nolle prosequi at the state attorney’s request. A habeas corpus hearing remained. Wynekoop plans to pursue an exhaustive self inquiry into his wife’s death while his mother, Dr. Alice Lindsay Wynekoop, remains jailed on an indictment for the murder.
The National Association for the Fine Art of Drinking named the merry-go-round cocktail the nation’s best. Samuel G. Blythe sponsored it. judges gave 12 of 19 votes, with J. P. McAvoy second and Gouveneur Morris third.

William Benton, 28, drummer with Zach Whyte's dance orchestra, died in a Sunday morning car wreck near Batavia Ohio while returning to Cincinnati from Athens. The vehicle skidded on a hill, struck a telephone pole, and rolled down a embankment. Wounded were William Carpenter, 36, driver with a fractured arm, and James Shaw, 4, trumpet player with suspected leg fractures. They were taken to Milford hospital.
Ice and snow forced two Western Airways pilots to abandon their mail planes over the Allegheny Mountains east of Pittsburgh. Dean Burford, 32, Columbus, Ohio, and H G Andrews, 38, Newark, New Jersey, parachuted to safety but the planes and mail were lost. Searching parties were sent.

Secretary of the Interior Ickes slipped on ice while leaving his home and was taken to Naval Hospital after an X-ray examination. He continued to his office earlier before the injury required medical check.
A fugitive farm hand Jack Wisdom faced lynching as Oklahoma and Kansas authorities battled mob violence after his alleged confession to slayings of Mr and Mrs Pritchard and Emory Large. Gov Murray dispatched National Guard units to protect Wisdom and the two states coordinated to recover bodies near Kingfisher and Meade.

Paris reports the birth of France's first nudist baby as a scientific experiment by a professor and his wife in the Seine’s Physiopolis Island Nudist Colony. The mother remained nude and swam daily while walking five miles, the eight pound baby and mother described as doing well.
