Nelsonville Scarlet and Gray basketball team heads to Marietta as underdogs after a crushing loss to Chauncey Dover. Ten players shared minutes in the last game, and coaches experiment with different lineups during this week’s practice.
Nelsonville church schedules Advent events led by Rev O R Clary from Jackson. Services begin 9 30 a m with 10 30 a m anthem by the choir and a sermon by Rev Lawrence Crawford on Things Written Aforetime as the Second Sunday in Advent.
Nelsonville announces a Legion drive collection Saturday morning. Toys will be placed on porches and recon ditioning time requires the drive to conclude by Saturday. Troop 64 Boy Scouts meet at the Legion Building at 10 o clock to assist.
Santa Claus is en route to Nelsonville and is expected to arrive around 2 p.m. Saturday December 9. Boy Scout troops will form a guard of honor and a street parade will be led by the high school band.

A county unit of the Ohio Association for the Protection of the Aged will organize in the Buckeye Building Nelsonville Sunday afternoon December 10 at 2 o clock. Speakers will be R. E. Grant and Judge Louis Tyroler from Athens. The meeting was called by H. A. Sines and R. H. McCray.

The GLOUSTER Missionary Society of the Methodist Church met Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. P. J. Stanley s home with Mrs. Mary Hawk and Mrs. Elizabeth Gordon assisting. Isabel Vernon presided as the group sang Christmas carols and topics included stewardship devotion by Anel Gamwell and a study on Korea by E. E. Munden. Seventeen members attended and were served refreshments after the business session.

Nelsonville banks the Peoples and the Citizens Central will open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and close at noon on Saturdays starting December 11 1939 to comply with wage and hour law restricting bank employee hours. The Phi Club lost to Nelsonville Eagles 400 to 310 last night.
