Jackson County Seeks Holiday Cheer with Santa Parades

Free Go Ohio Valley feature spotlights Jackson County holiday festivities on December first Saturday. Santa arrives. multiple parades begin at 11 a.m. in Oak Hill and Wellston, with Mrs Claus greeting children. Activities include Breakfast with Santa, craft shows, auctions, and a tree lighting at 7 p.m., benefiting local groups.

Torch area injection wells discussed at Coolville meeting

A 6 p.m. Thursday meeting at the Coolville Firehouse will cover injection wells in the Torch area. Jennifer Bowman of Ohio University will update on the water well monitoring project joined by Teresa Mills of Columbus with hazardous industry experience. Dr. Erin Haynes of Cincinnati will discuss including Torch in an air quality study. The Meigs County Board of Health meets Tuesday December 8 at 5 p.m. in Pomeroy. Jacksonville Water Dept closed for training. Glouster hosts Christmas in the Village Saturday at 6 p.m. with a parade Santa and treats for children through fifth grade.

Ten Spot Road Fire In Nelsonville Scorches Mobile Home

York Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fully involved mobile home fire on Ten Spot Road in Nelsonville shortly after a multi-vehicle Route 33 crash. Chief Scott McManus said three-quarters of the home burned, roof collapse prevented entry, but firefighters saved a vehicle and some belongings, including guns. no occupants were home.

Recycling Schedule in Athens County

Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District offers recycling events this week. Glouster residents may drop at Community Action Center by Monday Dec 7, Buchtel residents at Village Hall lot Sat Dec 5 8 am to noon, New Marshfield at Community Center opposite village post office. Accepted free: cardboard, newsprint, magazines, glass, aluminum and steel cans, plastics 1-7, mixed office paper. Call 740-797-4208 for details.

Gentile seeks re election to Ohio Senate in 30th District

State Senator Lou Gentile of Steubenville announced his bid for re election to the Ohio Senate 30th District first appointed in 2011 and elected in 2012. He highlights continued focus on living wage jobs including the Carroll County Energy project and regional economic development while noting past work on veterans credits and college energy job scholarships.

Democrat files for 4th District Court of Appeals

Democrat Paul Price of Pike County files to run for the 4th District Court of Appeals seat now held by Republican Matt McFarland. Price, a 2004 Cleveland State University law graduate, has led a high volume county court since 2013, creating a drug court, boosting collections, and clearing about 13 000 cases. He also chairs safety upgrade efforts for the courthouse and has held leadership roles with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.
