Third graders across Athens County and Ohio will take the AIR test replacing PARCC. NYES principal Becky Dalton says students must pass the AIA by year end with a yet to be determined score. NYES uses practice questions, blueprints, and test strategies with motivational prizes including pizza gift certificates and bicycles as rewards. Athens City School District describes no formal test prep, instead offering a diagnostic Language Arts program with end-of-year interventions for underperforming students.

Two Athens residents plead innocent in drug case
Kevin D. Payne 24 and Natasha M. North 35 pleaded innocent in Athens County Common Pleas Court to one count each of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Both remain jailed on 75000 dollars bond. Gambrel, linked to the case, faces a 19 count indictment and is jailed on 100000 dollars bond. Raleigh Morris has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and awaits diversion or Vivitrol screening. Pretrial dates set for January 5 and January 12.
