Robert M. Marshall of Glouster, president of the United Mine Workers subdistrict in Hocking Valley, was removed from office by the district executive board in Columbus after malfeasance charges. Vice President Fred Hemsley becomes president of the Hocking unit, with Conrad Wein as treasurer. Marshall faces a five year ban on holding union office and plans an appeal to the international board in Indianapolis.

In Teubenville on Aug 31 authorities issued a lookout for Silvio Paglici, 35, of Cherry Valley, accused of killing David Zambassi, a Parlett coal miner. Sheriff William T. Allison said the fatal dispute began when Paglici sang an army song disrespectful to Benito Mussolini.
