In Fort Payne Alabama August 28 surgeons operated on 8 year old Wallace Doyle Sharp Jr after his parents who belonged to a Holiness sect refused surgery in faith healing. Doctors said the boy had an even chance for life after the procedure was performed in the Sharp home with cult members singing and praying in the Unknown Tongue.
A ten man gang led by George Baby Face Nelson planned two simultaneous hold ups in Minnesota's Iron Range. Internal dissension arose and Homer Van Meter was challenged by a fellow gang member, a source reported from St. Paul.

Merrill Cabeen age 19 of 7 Wolfe Street died at a Louisville hospital from injuries after a Sunday night roadster crash near Louisville. Owen Carmichael age 33 of Athens was severely injured. both were with the Athens National Guard encamped at Fort Knox. Cabeen was a corporal and a recent Athens High School graduate.
A Cleveland gang leader and two henchmen were detained in Cleveland as suspects in a $50,000 mail truck robbery in Butler Pennsylvania last Friday. Postal inspectors and Sergeant White of Pennsylvania police will question the trio with information from Cleveland detectives.
About three hundred Democrats including state and county nominees will attend a victory dinner at the Berry Hotel Wednesday night. A 6 to 7 pm reception precedes a street parade, with a three act floor show by Columbus entertainers and Ted Wildermuth Orchestra providing music for the banquet.

Canton reports 15 year old William Gruber and Willard Tschan of Massillon were sent to Columbus for further investigation into the slaying of Ernest Schwartz a Pittsburgh gold buyer. Both youths are charged with murder and Gruber allegedly confessed to the filing.
Warren man held for questioning in Cleveland in the slaying of Alessio Romeo World War veteran. Detectives traced an automobile license and recovered two pistols. Romeo, once said to have chauffeured President Wilson in France, was shot in a neighbor's home Sunday night.
A Texas coastal storm center moved inland near Freeport on August 28 as a driving gale of about 8 miles per hour battered the town. Government forecasts had warned residents, and most of Freeport’s 3,500 citizens fled inland while nearby towns reported only moderate winds. The region had seen 11 deaths about a month earlier during a massive tidal wave driven by strong winds.
