In Rutland township Saturday night a family conflict led to a triple shooting. Karl Eblin 30 was wounded in the neck chest and abdomen. John N Black 55 shot after Eblin fired at him. Black’s wife was hit in the arm. Black and Kinney fled, Eblin was hospitalized in Gallipolis. Black faces shooting with intent to kill charges.

G. D. Archer 82, of Buchtel, shot himself on the back porch about 7:30 this morning after talking of death by own action. He died half an hour later. His wife, in poor health, was the sole caregiver for years. He leaves two sons and three daughters. the body taken to Stout's mortuary.

Death of Circulation Manager in Athens Messenger
William Biddison Johnson, longtime Messenger circulation manager, died suddenly from heart failure induced by indigestion on Morris avenue after Sunday school. Born November 24, 1858, he led the paper’s circulation growth to over 11,000 and was noted for his people skills and loyalty to his Christian faith. He leaves four children, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a large Athens County extended family. funeral is set for Tuesday at the Christian church.

Mrs Stedman Dies at 87 Widow of Mexican War Soldier

In Plains Aug 27 a nine year old boy Loren Dow Slater was struck by a auto while playing near Plains road. He sustained a fractured skull and other injuries and is reported to be in critical condition. The driver is absolved from blame. The boy is the grandson of Mrs James Hardy. His mother died when he was seven months old and his father was killed in a shooting accident in Illinois three years ago.
