New mural panels capture Nelsonville history on Canal Street
A newly finished mural visible from East Canal Street across from Rocky Brands features five blue and white panels. It portrays Nelsonville's history as background with modern hiking and biking in the foreground. Muralist Barry O'Keefe of Richmond Virginia, Ohio University printmaking alumnus, inspects finishing touches. Lynn Garbo, historic downtown association director, and artist Nate Schirmer assist on the ladder.

Stabbed student awarded 300000 in damages
An Athens County judge awarded Michael Gallas 300000 in a civil judgment against Ohio University students Patrick Barry and Mario Jenkins for a 2013 assault outside Courtside Pizza in Athens. Gallas, a Pi Kappa Alpha member and OU senior, was struck and stabbed with a broken beer bottle, treated at O'Bleness Memorial and Grant Medical Center.

Nelsonville York Elementary unveils a new 17 000 square foot turf playground replacing pea gravel. Parents teachers and PTO members spearheaded the summer project with a $25 000 district funding bringing costs to about $10 000. Community volunteers hauled away gravel and assisted in installation to improve safety and accessibility.
