In Lawrence County Ohio a 42-year-old widower Charles E. Horton killed Faith Massie a 29-year-old Ohio University graduate with a pick and then shot himself. The tragedy occurred in a tobacco barn on the Massie family farm and Faith Massie a former teacher from Rappsburg had rejected Horton's marriage proposals.
New York report says John N. Willys, a leading automaker and former ambassador to Poland, died at his Bronx summer home at 61 after a May heart attack and a crisis Friday. Born in Canandaigua New York, he built a bicycle firm at 18 and expanded to Willys Overland, later selling holdings in 1929 for several million. Hoover named him ambassador to Poland in 1930, serving to 1932.
A group sing led by Miss Joy Cutler will open the convocation Tuesday morning in Fine Arts Hall on the Ohio University campus. The Rural Adult Education Institute convenes its third bi-weekly assembly organized by the Ohio Emergency Schools Administration.
In Columbus 4 Henry Lease 27 a baker was hurled to his death from an automobile Sunday. Police detained M F Roberts the driver for investigation.
Loyal Gilkey's horse at Loyalville near New Castle, Pa., suffered a severe tail injury when a pulley belt from a threshing machine caught and tore it off. The accident underscores dangers of early machinery to working animals.
An escape from London Prison Farm ended when at 2 a m a convict lit a cigarette, aiding capture of two accomplices. Fred Hutton was caught near London. Frank Mee Gary and Weston Dolling remained at large until a pursing party illuminated a line of railroad cars at South Charleston, 11 miles west of London.
Osborn council voted to ban slot machines and gambling devices in the village despite Mayor Haerr’s absence. The ordinance, passed in a special meeting, aims to curb gambling profits relied upon by many local merchants.
Logan staff special reports Lehman of Hock-Hocking Dahlia Gardens has developed a pure white dahlia after seven years of cross pollinating. About 50 researchers are working on trials. Everett F. Lumpe 39 of Columbus drowned near Huron in Lake Erie Saturday after being swept from a raft by a high wave. His body was found a quarter mile from shore near the raft. Lumpe was president of the Columbus Printing Ink Co.

The Utility Holding Company Bill becomes law after a signing by President Roosevelt aided by Wheeler Barkley Rayburn Cohen and Corcoran. The measure ends holding company abuses by regulating services and securities issuance with a cost clause for internal subsidiaries.
A group of travelers could not pay $3 to the ferryman at Yonkers New York. They offered a pig as payment. The ferryman put $3 in the till and quickly sold the pig.
Akron police say Ernest Pribble age 2 is charged with murder in the death of his first cousin Edwin Davis during a quarrel over Pribble’s sister Mary age 21 who witnessed the shooting. Five shots were fired during the argument.
Derwood Cradiebaugh of Mechanicsburg and Tom King of Athens were injured Saturday night when their car left Route 31 at Greenlawn Cemetery. Cradiebaugh drove the car and suffered bruises and possible rib fractures. King had facial cuts and both were taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital.
The Ohio convention of the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics opened with state secretary W. A. Clark predicting a resolution to deport 6,000,000 aliens who have not applied for citizenship.
Petitions seek November local option votes to limit beer sales in Cedarville Village and Township. Three Cedarville churches back the movement driving the campaign.

The 5th annual State Fair began in Columbus Ohio attracting entrants from across the state. Exhibits include 3000 sheep 1700 cattle 115 swine 225 Percheron horses 168 Belgians and 128 goats as officials report record entries. Harness racing and a night show are slated with an all Ohio High School Band of 250 youths performing daily. Scheduled days include Farm Organization Officials Day County Officers Day Governor's Day and Press Day.
Acting Chief Robert Doyle pursuing a speeder crashed into a parked car in Steubenville. James Lawson, 3%, died. Doyle and another occupant were injured, as were six occupants in the parked vehicle.

Mrs. Jacob Lavey of this city suffered severe cuts and bruises when the car she and her husband rode in was sideswiped eight miles south of Jackson. The vehicle was destroyed by fire. Mr. Lavey escaped injury. They were on the way to Gallipolis for an air and water show.
Logan county obituary for Lewis Robinson age 62 who died after a month of illness following a stroke. He worked as a laborer at the Hocking Valley Brick Plant for two years and is survived by his wife and daughter Lillian Robinson of Charlotteville Virginia. Funeral services set for Wednesday at two o clock at Morgan Church in Meigs County.
A report spurred a nationwide search for gangster William Mahan seen near Westminster Maryland driving a sedan with Ohio plates. Authorities say the suspect used the alias William Marrell on an expired courtesy gasoline card, a DOJ agent confirms.
