Marker to Commemorate John Porter Steamer at Gallipolis Park

A marker in Gallipolis City Park will honor the 1878 John Porter steamer event that brought yellow fever and caused 66 deaths. A sandstone shaft will display Ohio River high water marks while a rock shaft, long kept by the Hill family, is prepared. John McNealy funds both markers and the plan avoids the 18 foot gauge. Personal mentions note Jake Soden and Merri Butterfield departing for a five day Virginia tour.
